I just got back from Orlando this past Friday, and pretty much as soon as I came back discovered a bunch of incredible iPhone apps for creating music. I've already wasted almost a full day playing with them, but I think I've found my new instruments for Rocktobersaurus. (If only I had discovered these before I left, I could've tried to make some songs on the plane...)
BeatMaker by Intua is a beat box, sequencer and loop sampler application for the iPhone. It costs twenty bucks, but so far, I think it will be worth the money. It seems really powerful.
BtBx is a much simpler, but includes a keyboard and synth. If BeatMaker adds that in the next release, it will have everything else dominated.
Bloom was created by Brian Eno and is an interface to creating ambient music. I really want to check this out, but I've heard it is glitchy with the iPhone I have.
RjDj is another really cool idea. It takes input from the headphone microphone and turns it into an ambient orchestra. I've only messed around with it a little bit in my room, but I'd bet if you were somewhere busy, it would be incredible. I'll be sure to check it out the next time I'm in NYC. I may try to create some "scenes" for more sedate environments.
Now that I've spent so much time on this, I really need to go do all of the work I've been putting off this weekend...
