Art Guy July

So if you're here because you know me, then there's a slight chance that you know I am very interested in art and design. You may also know that I'm not very good at either, but have been taking classes at a local community college to help fix that/figure out if it's actually something I enjoy doing as opposed to viewing. So with that in mind, I bring you Art Guy July.

Every day, I will do something artistic or design related. That could be drawing a doodle of dragons burning down villages, taking a cool photograph or video, producing a crazy & rambling (yet insightful) piece of writing, or maybe just going to an art show or museum. Anything to keep me in that creative spirit. Hell, maybe I'll even take my brother's advice and sign up for an improv comedy class. That's something I'd eventually like to do - maybe this is the month for it. I guess we'll have to wait and see what July has to offer us.

Game Over

Building an arcade machine has been an even bigger failure than Rocktobersaurus. I've been crazy busy with work, cycling training, and recovering from injuries so that I can resume cycling training, and I haven't done much work on the arcade machine. In fact, the few times that I did try working on it, I got so fed up with the cabinet, that I didn't even know what to do next.

Goodbye, Art Guy July!

Today is the last day of July...it's a bit sad. I feel like I experienced a lot, but still didn't accomplish everything I set out to do. Designing and building websites is hard work - especially when you do it all day and then try to come home and do some more of it. I've had a nasty knot in my neck for the past few days. On Monday, I just came home and passed out. Then on Tuesday, I went out with some friends for some un-artistic yet delicious drinks and dinner at Cobras and Matadors.

My High School Movies Win at Sundance!

I was sick on Friday and stayed home and did some work on my brother's website. I finished up a fairly solid design Saturday morning and sent it over for feedback before heading up to the Griffith Observatory (which was pretty kick ass - I need to go back at night and also check out some of their shows.) He liked most of it, so now I'm just working on converting it to a wordpress theme.

Fear and Loathing in Los Angeles

So, instead of going to see War Games tonight, I went over to Westwood to catch a screening of Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. All I have to say is, thank fucking God I went to see this movie instead.

Going into this movie, I only knew the following about Hunter S. Thompson:

Busy Boy = Few Updates (updated!)

I've been working pretty long hours the past few weeks. On Friday though, I got out of work at a reasonable time, then went to see Darker My Love at the echo. They were pretty good, although a bit more psychedelic than I was expecting. Saturday was just as busy as the rest of the week.

The Huntington Gardens

I went to the Huntington on Sunday (and took a lot of pictures.) I made the unfortunate mistake of wearing jeans there, even after

Time Lapse Test

I finally did my first experiment with time-lapse photography using my DSLR.

I just took continuous shots while walking up the sidewalk on Friday. I made a few quick exposure adjustments in iPhoto, then imported them into iMovie for a quick and dirty time lapse clip. It's definitely not something I'd promote, but it's at least something.

Artsy Fartsy Weekend

I haven't gone to any art shows, openings, or museums since Mr. Brainwash's "Life Is Beautiful" in a warehouse down on Sunset back in late June. As part of Art Guy July, I want to go to more museums (I'm always down for the Getty!) I was hoping to go to CineMOCA last Saturday, unfortunately, there was a

Art Guy July - Week 1

Wednesday night and Thursday night were somehow both spent at Jumbo's Clown Room. Well, not "spent" per-se, but rather, I made an appearance for about an hour each night. I'm going to say that the first night counts as something artistic (watching performance arts!) but pretty much each of the other nights this past week, I've been working on redesigning (or maybe just designing) a few of my websites, namely jessefulton.com.

Art Guy July Begins

So, I haven't produced any works of art today. But that's not what Art Guy July is about - it's about doing something creative each day. You can't produce a masterpiece in an hour, it takes time to develop and create (not that I will create a masterpiece.) I started one project which will last the duration of the month. I don't have terribly high expectations for it, but the only way to see how it will turn out is to let it complete its course. (Don't worry, it's nothing terribly exciting.)
